Terms of Service

Effective date: May 1, 2025 Last updated: May 7, 2026 Version 1.1

These terms govern your use of Cue. By using the service, you agree to these terms. Please read them. They're written to be understood, not to bury important things in legalese.

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Cue ("the Service") at startcue.io, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you may not use the Service.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and the operator of Cue ("we", "us", "our"), a sole proprietorship based in Sweden. Use of the Service is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

Description of the Service

Cue is an AI-powered music production assistant that provides guidance on mixing, arrangement, sound design, and music production through a conversational interface and interactive visualizations.

The AI responses are generated by a large language model (currently Claude, operated by Anthropic, Inc.) and are intended as educational guidance and creative suggestions. They are not professional audio engineering advice and should not be treated as such.

Cue is available in two modes. Anonymous use allows you to ask up to 5 questions per browser without creating an account. Signed-in use requires an email address and provides additional features including saved session history across devices.

Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. By using Cue, you confirm that you meet this age requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that you have obtained parental or guardian consent to use the Service.

Accounts and Sign-In

4.1 Account Creation

To use Cue beyond 5 anonymous messages, you must create an account by providing a valid email address. We authenticate you by sending a one-time passcode (OTP) to that address. No password is required. You are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure.

You must provide an accurate email address. You may not create an account on behalf of another person or use a temporary or disposable email address for the purpose of circumventing usage limits.

4.2 Usage Limits

Cue is offered as a free service subject to the following limits:

These limits exist to manage AI API costs and ensure fair access for all users. We reserve the right to adjust them at any time with reasonable notice. If you reach a limit, you will be notified in the app.

4.3 Session Storage

When you are signed in, your conversation history is saved to your account and stored on our servers. This allows you to return to previous conversations and access them from different devices. Anonymous users' conversations are stored only in their browser and are not backed up.

4.4 Account Security

An authentication token is stored in your browser after sign-in. This token is valid for 30 days. You are responsible for signing out on shared or public devices. We are not responsible for any loss resulting from unauthorized access to your account caused by your failure to secure your device or email account.

4.5 Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time through the app ("Delete account" in your account menu). Account deletion permanently and immediately removes all your saved chat sessions and usage records from our servers. This action cannot be undone. You may also request deletion by contacting legal@startcue.io.

Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not infringe on the rights of others. Specifically, you agree not to:

We reserve the right to terminate or restrict access to users who violate these terms.

AI-Generated Content

Important: AI-generated advice is for educational and creative purposes only. Always apply your own judgment. AI systems can produce incorrect, outdated, or suboptimal guidance.

6.1 Nature of AI Responses

Cue's responses are generated by an AI language model. While we work to ensure high-quality, music-production-specific output through careful system prompt design, AI responses:

6.2 Your Responsibility

6.3 Content You Input

You retain ownership of any content you enter into the Service. By submitting content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process it for the sole purpose of generating your response and, if you are signed in, storing the conversation in your account. We do not claim any ownership over your music, projects, or creative work.

6.4 Prohibited Input Content

You agree not to submit content that is unlawful, includes personal data of third parties without authorization, violates intellectual property rights, or is designed to manipulate or jailbreak the AI system.

7.1 Our Intellectual Property

The Service, including its interface, design, code, visualizations, and brand, is owned by or licensed to us. Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works of any part of the Service without our written permission.

7.2 Your Content

You retain all rights to the content you submit to the Service and any music you produce. AI responses generated in response to your inputs do not constitute work-for-hire and do not create any intellectual property claim on our part.

7.3 AI Output Ownership

The legal status of AI-generated content remains an evolving area of law. We make no representations about your ability to claim copyright in AI-generated text or visualizations produced by Cue. You assume all responsibility for any intellectual property questions relating to your use of AI output.

Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion of certain warranties or limitations of liability, so the above limitations may not apply to you in full.

Material changes will be communicated by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this document and, where feasible, through a notice in the Service.

Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
